Class Overview

Level 1 & Level 2 students Adult class (18+). Basic Techniques: You will learn fundamental lyra techniques and moves. These can include mounting and dismounting the lyra, holds, hangs, poses and transitions. The focus is on building a strong foundational technique that will set you up for success in more advanced moves. Strength and Conditioning: Lyra requires a good deal of body awareness, upper body and core strength. You'll work on building and developing these muscles through various conditioning exercises. Progression: As you advance through the classes, you'll gain confidence and competence in lyra techniques, poses and transitions, to find a flow among poses setting a solid foundation for sequencing, and in preparation for more advanced skills as you progress to the intermediate level. It's essential to wear appropriate attire (usually form-fitting clothing that covers the back of the knees) and to communicate any physical limitations or concerns with your instructor to ensure a safe and enjoyable learning experience. All skills and exercises will be tailored to your body’s current abilities. All bodies are welcome. **The aerial hoop (also known as the lyra, aerial ring or cerceau/cerceaux) is a circular steel apparatus suspended from the ceiling.

Know before you go

  • A signed waiver is required for participation. Please complete the waiver before attending here (handwritten waivers will not be accepted).
  • Please do not arrive more than 10-15 minutes prior to class start time to avoid interrupting the class before yours.
  • There are parking meters directly in front of the studio (free after 6 pm during the week and all weekend); the metered spots in front of the studio and the surrounding blocks are fair game. There is also a parking deck diagonally behind the studio that you can enter off W. Morgan (at W Morgan and Dawson intersection).
  • For aerial classes, wear leggings or yoga pants that cover the back of your knees. No bare legs. A fitted t-shirt or top that will not ride up over your head when you invert is also a good choice. Please remove any and all jewelry. You will be barefoot during class.
  • Participants who do not have the proper clothing will not be allowed to participate. Even little items such as buttons or zippers on jeans, belt buckles, etc can pierce the silks causing tears or holes which will ruin the fabric.
  • Bring a reusable water bottle, class will make you thirsty!
